WooCommerce counting sales twice? Check your tracking plugins

Updated 8 November 2026 · by Matt Klette

If Meta Ads Manager or GA4 shows noticeably more purchases than WooCommerce has orders, the usual cause isn't Meta or Google. It's the same tag being added twice.

How it happens on WordPress

WordPress makes it easy to install a tracking plugin and forget it. Over a few years a store collects several:

Each one sends its own PageView, AddToCart and Purchase events. The platforms can't tell they're duplicates unless every source shares the same event ID, which plugins from different vendors don't.

How to check

  1. Go to Plugins in WordPress and list everything with "pixel", "analytics", "tag" or "Google" in the name.
  2. Open your site with the Meta Pixel Helper browser extension. Two pixel loads, or the same event fired twice on one page, confirms it.
  3. Run a free Pixel Check scan. It names each plugin that adds a pixel and flags any pixel added by more than one plugin or by a plugin and Tag Manager.

The fix

Pick one source per platform. For most WooCommerce stores that means Facebook for WooCommerce for Meta (it also sends server events) and either Google Analytics for WooCommerce or Site Kit for GA4. Then switch the same platform off everywhere else: in the other plugins' settings, and as tags in Tag Manager.

After the fix, reported conversions drop. That's the real number. Note the date so nobody reads it as a sales problem.
